Avalo Cat Sanctuary

Care, Compassion, Companionship.

"Avalo" is a short term we created from Avalokitesvara", the Buddhist of infinite compassion. Simple translations of the word 'compassion' mean active empathy, gentle affection, loving kindness, a willingness to bear the pain of others, and a benelvolence toward all beings free of selfish attachment. Here at Avalo, we embrace enlightenment each day to offer our cats compassion, kindness, courage and light.

The name Avalokitesvara means something like " the Lord who looks down on the World" or according to another interpretation " the Regarder of the Cries of the World". She is described as rescuing from all kinds of distress and danger anyone who calls out his mantra, Om Mani Padme Hum (Om the Jewel in the Lotus Hum). This desire and ability to help all without distinction is due to Avalokitesvara's great compassion, indeed she is seen as the very embodiment of the Buddha's compassion.

What does Avalo mean?

hybrids - our specialty

I've always been a cat person and after meeting my first Bengal, I was enamoured and realized that these gorgeous, personable and energetic cats also needed a sanctuary option, just as regular cats did. I'm so fortunate to be able to impact the lives of these cats, all while partnering with some of the most passionate and driven cat lovers on the planet!
